Zambia national football team defender Stopilla Sunzu and forward Evans Kangwa have suffered injury setbacks and will now miss the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea-Bissau on June 13.
The centre back picked up the injury during a morning training session with the national team on Wednesday and is expected to be out of action for at least two weeks.
Team Doctor Joseph Kabungo told fazfootball.com on Thursday that Sunzu had strained ligaments on his left knee while Evans Kangwa had a groin injury. “He will need at least two weeks. He will need constant reviews in between and we have to make sure that his knee gets back to its normal shape in that period,” Dr Kabungo said of Sunzu.
“Today it is a bit swollen but I am happy with the progress he has made in the last 12 to 18 hours because he is able to walk on his own without any aid.”
Of Evans Kangwa Dr Kabungo said:” Evans is still experiencing pain on his left groin. I think essentially he is also out of Saturday’s game.”
Both players will remain in camp with the rest of the squad.
